Axis changed

So you think you can punch?

The athletes in the KDT program have spent close to a year or more working on their stand-up punching skills however when the axis were changed to study the ground aspect they found that the familiar footwork and hip movement that powered their punches were severely limited or non-existant with their backs to the floor.

The person on top became dominant and could throw a barrage of strikes with accuracy and force and more dangerously, in combinations that could really deliver serious damage.

As we know some fights end up on the ground. The question is, in spite of sport BJJ rules, should you defend first or escape first? Would you last that long to escape or can you defend effectively from punches raining down on you?

The best way to find out was to slap on the gear and to go for it. A simple drill was done and repeated. Punching from under mount, from top mount, basic defensive and avoidance postures were done and punching combinations detailed. The game just got nastier!
