頑張る
In the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), a concept often overlooked yet deeply valued is "Ganbaru," a Japanese term that embodies perseverance and dedication. This quality is not only crucial for practitioners but also for coaches seeking to inspire their students. Recently, I had the opportunity to train with Priit Mihkelson in Chiang Mai and Bangkok, where he introduced us to the Constraints Led Approach (CLA) and ecological dynamics training. This experience was both enlightening and invigorating, reigniting my passion for coaching BJJ with newfound tools.
The Constraints Led Approach
Priit's method stood out for its simplicity and effectiveness. He focused on setting goals and constraints rather than explaining complex scientific theories or demonstrating desired outcomes. This approach allowed participants to achieve objectives without being shown how, fostering a unique learning environment. The CLA is versatile, used in sports like baseball and basketball, and offers multiple layers of constraints and permitted techniques to guide athletes toward desired outcomes.
A Unified Community
What was particularly striking was the convergence of BJJ practitioners from various gyms, all united in their pursuit of learning and skill acquisition. This absence of tribalism was refreshing and inspiring, highlighting the power of shared goals in building a cohesive community.
Upcoming Opportunities
Priit is scheduled to visit Malaysia later this year, offering a chance for more BJJ enthusiasts to experience the CLA firsthand. For those interested in enhancing their coaching skills or deepening their understanding of BJJ, this seminar promises to be a valuable opportunity.
Reflections on Learning
The experience was humbling, reminding me that even in moments of uncertainty, there is always room for growth. As the saying goes, "Those who teach, learn," and this seminar was a testament to that principle. The induction of new black belts and the camaraderie shared among teammates made the journey even more memorable.
If you're interested in participating in Priit's upcoming seminar, please reach out for more information. Thank you to my teammates for their camaraderie and for sharing the highlights of our BJJ adventure in Thailand.
